New Uses for an Old Bed Sheet

When we bought our mattress I mistakenly purchased sheets that were not for extra thick mattresses so they are wearing out quick. One set has already torn at the corners from pulling it over the edge too much. Since the fabric is still in great condition I really hate to throw them out. I have been coming up with some new uses for them and also found some great ideas on other blogs. I thought this list of ideas might be useful to others as well:
Make curtains.
If you have a sewing machine, you can turn old sheets into kitchen, patio door or window curtains. Measure, cut, sew hems and add curtain loops.
Make a dog bed cover.
Use sheets to cover your dog’s bed or place at the end of the couch or bed where your family pet sits to collect hair and make clean up easier.
Sew them into table cloths.
Old sheets make excellent table cloths. Piece together different styled sheets for a fun and unique look or simply cut and hem sheets into a simple table covering.
Use it at the Beach.
A sheet is lighter then a blanket or towel and less bulky to carry and the sand rolls off it very easily.
Turn flannel sheets into PJs.
Worn flannel sheets can easily be transformed into warm and cozy pajamas for the kids.
Use as drop cloths.
Lay sheets over furniture, carpeting and appliances while painting or working on projects. Going away for the summer? Old sheets also make great furniture covers to keep dust off valuable pieces.
Halloween costumes.
What kid doesn’t want to be a ghost at some point in his trick or treating career? Old sheets can be crafted into any number of Halloween costumes.
Car seat covers.
Throw sheets over the backseat during road trips to prevent against spills, pet hair and stains.
Quilt squares.
Cut sheets into uniform pieces and use them as quilt squares for blankets or even wall art.
Turn them into napkins.
Sheets can be cut and hemmed into cloth table napkins.
Turn sheets into an ironing board cover.
Ironing board covers are nothing more than a single layer of fabric. Cut sheets to size and hold them in place with clothes pins or velcro.
Make pet toys.
Sheets can be sheared into two inch strips and braided together to form dog or cat chew toys.
Create baby crib sheets.
Take big sheets and size them down into inexpensive baby crib sheets.
Make healthy natural dryer sheets.
Fill a small square container with water, vinegar, and your favorite essential oils. Cut the sheet into squares and soak in the container with the solution, as needed throw one sheet into the dryer!
Make re-useable baby wipes.
Cut into wide strips and soak in solution – Recipe: 1 tbsp baby oil, 1 tbsp baby wash to 2 qts water

I have just started making crochet rugs and braided rugs using sheets. It is easy if you can do simple crochet single and double stitch and can braid. There are many sites and even youtube tutes to help you get started.
