Reduce your Exposure to Toxins

Lately there have been a number of articles on CNN about toxins in the body and the dangers of toxins for pregnant women and children. The Senate had a recent panel discussing the dangers for children (read CNN article by clicking here). There are so many chemicals used in commercial processing that we cannot control. It’s frustrating to me because I want to keep toxins out of my body and out of my family members bodies but most of it is not in my control. There are hundreds of thousands of chemicals used commercially and only a fraction of them have been tested for safety.
There are some things we can do to minimize our exposure but we cannot eliminate it (even thought I wish I could). We can control the products we use in our homes which can reduce our risks. A growing body of research is linking five chemicals — among the most common in the world — to a host of ailments, including cancer, sexual problems and behavioral issues. They are bisphenol A, or BPA; phthalates; PFOA; formaldehyde; and polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PDBEs. I will be writing some follow up posts about each one of these items and how to reduce your exposure to each chemical. For more information click here for an article on CNN.com
