This winter I got sick a lot more then I usually do. My children bring home colds sometimes and normally I never catch them but this year I got sick twice and each time it was for a two week stretch. That was a clear sign to me that I had some work to do.
A healthy gut with a balanced level of probiotics will be able to fight off colds, the flu, and even the stomach bug. The gut is the real defense system of the body which is why a cleanse diet can help to boost immunity towards these types of common illnesses.
Illness isn't the only reason a cleanse diet could be beneficial, there are other signs that you might be ignoring that could be solved with some dietary changes.
Top Four Signs You Need a Cleanse Diet
Exhaustion
If I start to have a regular period of time where I am feeling depleted of energy for no reason (meaning I'm getting enough sleep), then I know it's time to start a cleanse diet. There are a variety of reasons why you might be feeling this way and many of them are resolved through diet. You may not be absorbing enough nutrients from your food, or there could be a specific food that is hard on your body and you don't know it. Cleanse diet's with an elimination diet transition phase, like my 14-day Paleo Cleanse, will help to address this problem.
Digestive Issues
This may come in many different forms for each person. For some it's acid reflux or indigestion, it could be constipation or diarrhea, or for others it could be nausea or a bloated belly. These are all uncomfortable problems that are directly related to the food you are eating.
Skin Breakouts
After cleaning up my diet years ago, I haven't had to worry much about breakouts on a regular basis (it used to be a daily stress factor for me!). If there is a time when I start to see issues with my skin, I know it's time for a reset. This can come in different forms for everyone, it could acne, eczema, roseacea, itchy red skin, etc.
Repeated Illnesses
If you are experiencing repeated illness, cleaning up your diet is extremely important. Cleanse programs help because they give you a step by step plan to follow which makes it a little easier. Illnesses are occurring because your body is out of balance and in need of nourishment.
Cleanse diets are often thought of as extreme weight loss tactics but this is really not the case. Yes, there are many juice cleanses or liquid diets that claim to produce big weight loss results but this isn't healthy or sustainable. There is no quick fix for weight loss. A cleanse diet is a way to create a foundation for a healthy diet and lifestyle. If you have a place to start it makes this a whole lot easier.
Hey there Roxanne. First off I have to thank you for writing such an eye-opening article and sharing it with millions if not billions of people like me who really need it. I am a big fan of cleansing diets and I always like to be a little experimental with my cleansing diets. However, despite being so well versed in what I should and shouldn’t do to come up with a mouth watery cleanse diet, I only just do my cleanses so as to feel good about myself and to try something new for a change but never because I felt that my body really needed it. As a matter of fact, it is only now that I have come to realize that exhaustion, repeated illnesses, digestive issues and skin breakouts are good tell tales that the body needs to be cleansed. I mean who would have thought? It’s certainly not me.
