silky smooth hairWe all want silky smooth hair that feels healthy. Soft, smooth hair that is free from frizz without using unhealthy synthetic hair products. Long hair can be especially hard to keep healthy because the ends dry out easily. My hair is pretty long and I know it's time for a trim when the ends start to feel rough. A few years ago, I was noticing that this was happening quicker and I couldn't go quite as long between cuts.

Ten years ago when I learned about the harmful chemicals in beauty products I stopped using synthetic hair products. Get Rid of Dry Skin Without Petroleum Products

It can be even worse for those of us with a Vata body type (if you're not familiar with Ayruvedic Dosha's, you can find out more about your body type here). If you are like me and have had dry skin your whole life I'm sure you've been told to use petroleum products like Aquaphor, Vaseline, or Eucerin. While these products may seem to work, they are not really healing your skin and they contain potentially harmful chemical additives.

In this article, you'll read that creams that contain mineral oil, like Eucerin, can increase the rate at which skin tumors form. Just a quick search on the Environmental Working Group will show you that Aquaphor contains a level 8 chemical additive called oxybenzone which has a long list of potential risks. It's clear these products aren't safe options for you or your family. The good news is there are many natural alternatives that work with your body's ability to heal itself.

If you've followed me for a while, you'll know how I feel about breakfast (if not read this). After this happened a few times and nearly ruined my day, I came up with this morning smoothie. It's easy enough that it only takes a minute or two to make and it provides me with the most important things I need.

There is nothing worse then having to take care of sick children when you feel just as bad (or worse!).  Nine times out of ten I'm able to stand strong through the illnesses in my home. This is mostly due to the fact that I eat well and do things regularly to boost my immune system. On top of this, there are a few things I do as soon as I notice my children are getting sick.

Prevention as a Lifestyle

Diet

The biggest reason I'm usually able to avoid the illnesses is because of my diet. Sticking to a low-sugar diet is the absolute best choice you can make. If you want to be super strict about it, avoid refined sugar all together. There are so many dietary theories you can follow but this is really the most important thing. There are differences in all of the different theories but none of the healthy diets disagree with this factor.

Supplements

In addition to a healthy diet, I use immune boosting supplements on a daily basis. These are a must during the Fall and Winter but also good to take every few days in the Spring and Summer as well.Continue Reading
