This recipe is the best homemade chocolate pudding (dairy free and it's pretty healthy for a dessert). I've tried many different chocolate pudding recipes – the healthy ones and the not so health ones (like chocolate avocado or chocolate hummus). This one has been, by far, the tastiest. It's not overly sweet and has just the right amount of chocolate. If you are avoiding dairy, pudding is usually not an option but with canned coconut milk it works really well. It's easier then you think to make and doesn't take too long.

Can you make this pudding with alternative sweeteners?
I have not tested it with alternative sweeteners like monk fruit, xylitol, or stevia so if you try those let me know how it works!
Is chocolate pudding gluten-free?
This recipe is gluten-free because the only starch used is arrowroot. Typically it is make with cornstarch so most likely it is gluten-free unless wheat flour is used as the thickener.
Can you make chocolate pudding without cornstarch?
This recipe is made without cornstarch, using arrowroot instead. Tapioca starch is probably a good sub but it sometimes creates lumps.
How do you make chocolate pudding without dairy?
It is easy to make chocolate pudding with coconut milk in place of cow's milk. It works quite well due to the high fat content and thick consistency.
Can you use non-dairy milk to make pudding?
This recipe has been tested with canned coconut milk with much success. It is possible to use other milks although I have not personally tested almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk, etc.
