Easy Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing Recipe

An easy balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing recipe is always on regular rotation for anyone who loves to eat salads. This recipe will not disappoint. Homemade salad dressings are a great way to make your salad even healthier. Have you read the label on many store bought dressings? Most are made with unhealthy oil. You will see canola oil or sunflower oil on the labels. These are inflammatory oils and should be reduced or eliminated from any healthy diet.

The best healthy oil to use in dressings is a quality olive oil or avocado oil (that is not cut with other oils). Make your own dressing to be sure that it is made with quality ingredients. Try making this easy recipe.

    What You Will Need

Of course, the main two ingredients in this dressing is olive oil and balsamic vinegar. There are a few more ingredients that really enhance the flavor. You will need:

You will whisk all of these ingredients together to make an emulsified dressing that is wonderful on any kind of salad.

Store this in a glass jar in the fridge for up to a week (if it lasts that long!). If the dressing separates a little the jar, just give it a shake to mix it back together before pouring over your veggies.

    Best Foraging Tools for Beginners

The best foraging tools are a few simple items that you will need to get started. You may even own some of these already. You can easily start foraging in your own yard or any land nearby. There are many plants you walk by regularly that are actually edible and maybe even medicinal. Most likely, you find at least dandelion and plantain in your own backyard. You may even find wild rose, stinging nettle, or sweet violets if you are lucky.

    Basic Foraging Tools

    • Foraging Basket – The most important thing you will need is a basket to collect all of your plants. I got mine at a local farm that imports them, this one is similar. Any basket will do, but preferable one made of natural materials.
    • Garden Clippers – a sharp pair of clippers are important to cut delicate or woody stems. You won't want to disturb the root system of the plant so it continues to grow so having clippers help keep the plant healthy.
    • Mesh Bags – Sometimes you may come across some delicate flowers or berries to forage that you will want to keep separate in your basket. These cotton mesh bags are perfect for this purpose. Plastic bags are not a great option here because it holds in the moisture which will make them spoil or get moldy quickly.
    • Sharp Trowel – a trowel with a sharp tip is helpful for harvesting roots like dandelion root. Many roots have medicinal properties and you may want to harvest them when you find them on a foraging walk.

    More Helpful Foraging Tools

    • Herb Drying Rack – some herbs you will use fresh but many you will want to dry for tea or for later use. An herb drying rack is very helpful for this purpose.
    • Garden Gloves – these come in helpful when you are harvesting something like stinging nettle or plants with thorns. It's important to protect your hands with gloves from these types of plants.
    • Food Dehydrator – thicker roots and berries may dry better when put into. dehydrator. This method also drys herbs quicker than a drying rack.
    • Glass Jars – once you start foraging and dehydrating herbs you will need containers to store them. Glass jars are ideal, mason jars used for canning are a great option. I also like these tops for the mason jars to store dried herbs.

    Advanced Foraging Tools

    • Bark Tool – if you start to get into the medicinal properties of barks, you may want to invest in a tool to help strip bark off trees like cherry bark which is used in cough remedies.
    • Pruning Saw – this pruning saw will come in handy when you need to trim branches or thicker stems.

You can start foraging with just a few beginner tools and add on more things as you need them.

    Homemade Healthy Nutella Recipe

This homemade healthy nutella recipe tastes even better than the original. The best part is its actually healthy, organic, and lower in sugar. If you have not looked at the label on Nutella, you may not realize that it's more than 50% palm oil and sugar. Surprisingly the nuts and cocoa make up less than half of the jar. The pre-made nutella in the grocery store has 21 grams of sugar per 2 tbsp. of the spread!

If you or your kids are hooked on this stuff, try swapping it out for this healthy homemade version to make this a healthy snack. Hazelnuts are quite nutrient dense. Just one ounce of hazelnuts provides the following:

    • Calories: 176
    • Total fat: 17 grams
    • Protein: 4.2 grams
    • Carbs: 4.7 grams
    • Fiber: 2.7 grams
    • Vitamin E: 21% of the RDI
    • Thiamin: 12% of the RDI
    • Magnesium: 12% of the RDI
    • Copper: 24% of the RDI
    • Manganese: 87% of the RDI

Without the large amount of added sugar, you can call hazelnut butter a healthy food but I wouldn't call Nutella healthy!

My son and I made this recipe in abut 15 minutes and he eats as an after school snack most days. Give this homemade healthy nutella recipe a try…
